For anyone looking to experience the best of the holiday season, now’s the time to plan a visit to one of Columbia, South Carolina’s longest running holiday traditions, Lights Before Christmas. Presented by First Citizens Bank and taking place at Riverbanks Zoo, for over 20 years this annual affair has attracted hundreds of families from throughout this southern region who were looking for a day of holiday cheer. After all, this is the only place in town where it is sure to snow every night. So throw on your coats and winter hats for the one event that is sure to show your family what Christmas spirit is all about.
Riverbanks’ Annual Holiday Event, Lights Before Christmas, is filled with an array of family fun experiences for adults and kids of all ages. Keeping up with tradition, organizers plan to make this year’s event even more memorable than years past with countless animated images, a jingle bell bonfire, Santa Claus and the much awaited dazzling music in motion lights spectacular. Additionally, there will be hot cocoa, marshmallows and other festive food to purchase to keep your stomachs full and holiday spirits high. So although most of the zoo’s animals will be off-exhibit for the winter, there will still plenty to keep the family occupied.
Your attendance at Lights Before Christmas will help support the zoo in protecting the livelihood of today’s endangered wildlife who are slowly disappearing due to diminishing forests and land. There is a lot of deep-rooted history found in the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden, so what better way to see its beauty than under the snow and lights of this annual holiday event.
